Summary:  Google Slides allows users to create, edit, collaborate, and present from anywhere! This educational tool is used to create PowerPoint ‘like’ slides online for Free! Users can work on the same presentation, at the same time, from various computers and locations.

Content:

  • Create or login to a Google account via gmail

  • Go to your Google Drive

  • Click on the red ‘NEW’ button in the top left of the screen

  • Select Google Slides

  • A new window or tab will open with the Slide ready for you to edit

  • Add to and edit the slide

  • Share when finished, or before for easy collaboration

Common Core Standards:

Writing standards and more for various grades. Below is a summary of writing by common core topics this will fall under:

  • Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence.

  • Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information

  • Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, relevant descriptive details, and well-structured event sequences.

  • Producing and Distributing

  • Research and Present Knowledge

Strengths:

  • Free

  • Easy access

  • Offline functions

  • Collaboration made easy

  • Most schools have access to accounts with unlimited storage

  • Personal accounts have 10GB of storage FREE

  • Easy to use with step-by-step instructions when creating a slide (this feature can be turned off)

  • Tons of “Add-on” features that work with this tool, all in one place

Weaknesses:

  • If Google is blocked by your school district

  • To get a Google Drive, must have a Google account and that means Gmail

  • The Google Slides app does not allow easy picture editing or revisions.
